Meet PJ and Ashley

Norfolk Island at horse pace

Horses have been part of PJ's life on Norfolk Island from the very beginning. PJ's mum came to the island as its horse riding instructor when PJ was a baby.

When PJ and Ashley Wilson bought their property near the 100 Acre Reserve, the idea came naturally: take visitors through the reserve the old way, in a genuine horse-drawn carriage beneath the island's great Moreton Bay figs.

In 2019, PJ imported what's recorded as Norfolk Island's first Shire horse. Today Tea Shire Drive is the island's only horse-drawn carriage tour, and one of its most unhurried experiences.

I thought it would be pretty special to drive a horse under those Moreton Bay figs and through the reserve. And it is.

The experience

Three moments, no rush

Small group, personal and deliberately slow. Tea Shire Drive suits almost everyone, because it isn't about fitness or ticking things off. It's about being present.
